When we talk about books, reading and writing, my mum always remembers an episode from one of those wonderful novels by H.E. Bates (probably The Darling Buds of May) where Ma Larkin makes jam tarts. It was so vivid, so compelling, so powerfully mouth-watering, that my mum just had to get up and make a batch herself.
That’s it: that’s what creative writing is all about.
